The Thornton Family

This little family is filled with love for one another.  While snapping away with my camera I couldn't help but be drawn to how gentle and kind they were with each other.  Little Miss Briella loves to be held by mommy and daddy.  Mommy and Daddy loved holding each other just as much.  They were all just so sweet.   

Don't even get me started on Briella's gorgeous blue eyes!  I couldn't get enough of them!     

The Christensen Family

I already love to photograph a family playing and having fun together.  I already feel so lucky to be trusted to capture those moments that show just how much a family loves one another.  But when your friends ask you to do it, it's pretty special.  This family will always have an irreplaceable spot in my heart.  Their love for each other is instantly visible and their laughs are contagious.  I can't get enough of those Little Christensen faces!  

The Machuca Family

I was so fortunate to meet Rosanna this year.  She is a beautiful wife and mother of four boys and she makes it look easy.  I love to watch a family interacting.  There's so much to learn about how a family loves one another.  These boys are not only cute.  They are kind, and warm and bright.  They also love their mom and dad.  Catching that warms my heart because I was given the privilege to take a peak into their world for a minute.  I mean, how lucky is that?

The "W" Family

To be asked to photograph a family is a real privilege.  You are being asked to capture a family's essence; their personality, their nature, and their love for one another.  This is not an easy assignment.  Families like this one, make it easy.  They had no reservations showing me their love for each other, posing, running, exploring and laughing together.

They are a fire family.  Just like mine, which is close to my heart.  A hero daddy, a brother and a sister that adore him, and a loving, smiling mommy and wife that keeps them all knit together close.

Turn Right on Tisberry Lane

Since buying my first home in 2009, I've been decorating and redecorating each room in the house whenever I come up with a new idea to freshen things up.  It can be expensive to overhaul every room every 6 months or so!  One of the tricks that I've always used is to change up the framed art that I have in each room.  For example, if I wanted to change the look of my bathroom from modern to modern-meets-Victorian, all I would need to do was change the art work around.  I'd hop on my Adobe Illustrator, play with the tools and "voila!" I'd have a whole new look!

3 Foot Tall Perspective

So I've been taking some self-imposed time off from my station behind the camera since Ava was born.  This whole mom-of-two-little-ones is no joke.  Now that I've gotten into somewhat of a groove with the kids I've been missing my camera.  I picked it up some during the holidays but didn't feel...inspired.  I needed some new perspective without relying too heavily on the trends on pinterest.  I needed something original, creative, and new!  But then I had to make someone's lunch, change someone's diaper, find that missing race car, make a bottle...and the list just got longer and longer as the days went on.

Then something clicked one morning when Joaquin was being sneaky and trying to steal my phone.  He was asking to take pictures.  Whenever I snap a quick Instagram shot or make a funny video he instantly asks "Can I see it?".  Now he was demanding to be the one on the other side.  So I pulled out my old camera, tied the strap to toddler size, and let him have at it.  Here's what he found the first day:

He had so much fun that I let him take it out again with my sisters and me as we walked the Promenade Downtown.  Not to toot my own horn or anything, but, uh these aren't half bad for a two-year-old, hehe!

Looking at these finally pushed me away from the photographer's version of writer's block.  It's so fun to see what he sees from just 3 feet tall.  To realize how different his view of the world must be at times is eye opening.  I think I'll be taking this little experiment as a lesson to start looking at things differently myself.  Size, space, and physical point of view are all relative.  I want to start looking for what grabs my attention but how it relates to where I'm standing and why it grabbed me.  I've got some new ideas in mind now.  More to come, very soon!
